New Tesco store to provide 150 construction jobs
The centre’s retail extension may provide a further 200 full and part-time jobs. Work on the 70,000sq ft store is due to start in Sep, and construction work will last one year.
News of Tesco’s arrival was welcomed by Micheál Ó Crúalaoí, chairman of Ballincollig Business Association, who said it gave more choice to shoppers and consolidated Ballincollig as a strong location for retailers.
Tesco will join Dunnes Stores as a second strong anchor in the €500m development on the former military barracks, and Ballincollig also has two Aldis, a Lidl, and two SuperValus.
O’Flynn Construction’s Michael O’Flynn welcomed the grant of planning from An Bord Pleanála and said it continued “a flagship development for Ballincollig and establishes a centralised critical mass in the town centre, making it an important retail centre in the Cork area”.
