Models and mayor in a spin for charity

Miss Cork, some of her glamorous modelling friends, and a former popstar turned politician are saddling up to help some of Cork’s flood victims.

Models and mayor in a spin for charity

Miss Cork Susan Brosnan, former Miss Cork Mairéad O’Farrell, and Lockdown model agency’s Vivienne Kelly, who are all from the Glanmire area, and Mayor of Cobh Sinéad Sheppard (formerly of pop group Six), will take part in a 24-hour spinathon this weekend. All funds raised will be used by the trustees of the new Glanmire Meadowbrook Flood Fund to help those worst affected by last week’s flood.

The event, from 6pm on Friday to 6pm on Saturday, will take place in Jennifer Thomas’s Team Thomas Fitness Centre on the Watergrasshill Rd.

Jennifer, who is hoping to complete the entire spinathon, urged fitness professionals to join her.

Fundraiser organiser, Lorraine O’Neill, said there will be 30 bikes available, with a special slot between 2pm and 4pm on Saturday aimed at teenagers.

She encouraged people to get involved by booking an hour slot for €10.

There will be a barbecue afterwards in The Castle Bar.

“It has been enlightening to see the local support from free meals courtesy of Liam Ryan in SuperValu, to accommodation in The Montenotte Hotel, Vienna Woods Hotel and Radisson Blu Little Island,” said Ms O’Neill.

The spinathon will be the first of a series of fundraisers, which began last weekend with a bag-packing event in SuperValu.

Pledge cards are available from Cream Coffee and Sandwich Bar at the Crestfield Centre.

Donations can be made at Glanmire Credit Union, account number 20300B, Glanmire Flood Relief Fund.
