One held over damage to Monet work

Conservation experts at the National Gallery of Ireland are assessing a Monet painting that was seriously damaged when a man apparently punched it yesterday.

Gardaí confirmed the man in his 40s was arrested and taken to hospital following the incident at about noon.

The man was later taken to Pearse St Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
