A €50m town planned for the outskirts of Cork could decimate the city’s falling population, it has been claimed.

Several councillors voiced concerns at Monday’s city council meeting about the county council’s plans for the new town at Monard, near Blarney.

It has been designed for a population of about 13,000, with new roads, schools, shops, and a rail link.
