A publican who re-opened her bar despite the fact that it was in receivership applied yesterday to have the case heard by judge and jury because it was such a serious case.

That application was made on behalf of Helen Waterman and Meadowbrook Enterprise Ltd, in relation to issues surrounding The Junction Bar at Glounthaune, Co Cork.

Eoin Clifford, counsel for the receiver, Barry Donoghue, opposed that application and said that trials by judge and jury tended to used for criminal cases at the circuit court and not for civil cases.
