Frequency of buses on city’s busiest routes to increase
Since yesterday, buses run every 10 minutes on the 208 route, and there are extra weekday and weekend services on the 205 route.
The improvements follow a review undertaken by the National Transport Authority on public transport services in Cork.
The new timetable for route 205, which now provides 61 services daily between Kent railway station and Cork Institute of Technology, includes:
* A bus running every 15 minutes between 6.30am to 7.15pm, Monday to Friday, and every 30 minutes after 7.15pm;
* A bus every 30 minutes at weekends;
* A new midnight service from the railway station.
The improvements to route 208 provide 83 daily services between Mayfield, via St Patrick’s St, and Bishopstown, and include:
* A bus every 10 minutes between 7.10am and 6.20pm, Monday to Friday, and every 20 minutes after 6.20pm;
* Weekend frequency increases to every 10 minutes between 11.50am and 6pm;
* The service on a Sunday is every 20 minutes, with two earlier departures at 9.20am and 9.40am.
“The newly improved timetables will provide more services, additional late departure times and improved connectivity with rail services at Kent Station for our customers,” said Joe Fitzgerald, Bus Éireann’s regional manager in the south.
“The aim of the new timetables is to deliver an increased level, range, and quality of public transport that will allow Bus Éireann to better serve the ever changing needs of current and potential public transport users.”
Earlier this year, 15 new wifi-enabled vehicles were introduced to Bus Éireann’s Cork City fleet, as well as electronic real-time signs on certain routes.
