Prepare for wet, windy weekend
Met Éireann forecaster Sandra Spillane says there is little good weather news on the horizon, with heavy, persistent rain expected for the start of the next week.
“There will be a sunny spell on Saturday evening, but unfortunately, it is not going to last long. We are expecting sunny showers during the week and dry, bright spells in the South-West, but other than that, we are in for a fair bit of cloud and rain.”
However, she said the showers were unlikely to cause any flooding.
At the time of going to print, the area with most rainfall was that around Cork Airport.
Today, Met Éireann is predicting wet and windy conditions, though it said the heavy rain should give way to showers and even brighter conditions in western areas later on.
It will still be cool for the time of year with a maximum temperature of just 16ºC.
Tomorrow, the West is set to see a reasonable start to the day, with Met Éireann predicting it will be “drier and brighter”.
However, it said eastern parts would still have some heavy bursts.
The temperatures will still remain low with a max of 17C expected and lows of 12C in some areas.
Sunday will see a “good deal of dry weather” with just a few scattered showers though again the maximum expected temperature is just 17C.
Met Éireann said it would be warmest in the South.
“The unsettled weather will continue at the start of next week with outbreaks of heavy showers and drier spells. However there are tentative signs that more settled weather will develop mid-week.”
