Unit will fast-track cardiac cases out of A&E

A new cardiology assessment unit is due to open in Cork University Hospital today to help fast-track cardiac patients out of the emergency department (ED).

Doctors say it will improve the “pathways” available to cardiology patients through the hospital.

It is being opened to help CUH cope with a massive increase in cardiac patient numbers following the reconfiguration of health services in the city.
