Hi-tech fiddler adds another string to bow

A young Irish musician who developed a hit fiddle app has won a prestigious international violin competition.

Mairéad Hickey, 16, who lives in the Lough area of Cork, took first place in her category of the 19th Jeun-esses International Violin Competition in Bucharest, Romania, last week.

It is one of the biggest competition wins for the teenage virtuoso, who has won eight all-Ireland titles for her fiddle playing.
