The Moriarty Tribunal could end up costing the State over €120m and has already made millionaires out of a number of the inquiry’s top lawyers.

No definite figure is available on the final cost of expenses and claims for witnesses and third parties who appeared before the 14-year inquiry into the sale of the state’s second phone licence.

The Oireachtas Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday expressed concern that the final costs for Moriarty were “lingering on” and were an unknown burden on the taxpayer.
