Jury finds man not guilty of assaulting woman

A woman told a court she had her jaw broken and was knocked unconscious by a man who swung a baseball bat or some kind of club into her face but a jury found him not guilty.

John “Jocks” Delaney, aged 58, of 20 Curraheen Drive, Bishopstown, Cork, had denied a charge of assault causing harm to Kathleen O’Flynn at Blackwater Grove, Togher, Cork, on Apr 28, 2011, claiming he had no weapon and that Ms O’Flynn fell when he disarmed her of a shovel.

The jury yesterday took only 24 minutes to return a unanimous not guilty verdict at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.
