Infection risk at home reported in 2010

The nursing home at the centre of six sudden deaths and 27 more infections caused by a flu outbreak was told of potential cross-infection risks two years ago.

Concerns were raised in a 47-page inspection report by the Health Information Quality Authority based on scheduled visits to the Nazareth House private nursing home in Buncrana, Co Donegal, on May 18 and 19, 2010.

While the detailed document noted the well-regarded facility offered a high standard of care, it said a series of “environmental issues” posed health risks to residents.
