Detectives’ lives ‘at risk’ since Uzi withdrawn

The lives of detectives are being put at risk since they were stripped of their Uzi sub-machine guns, according to middle-ranking gardaí.

They said Uzis have been taken away from detectives outside Dublin due to safety concerns but officers have not been given any replacement high-powered weapon.

“I understand that the Uzi submachine has been withdrawn on the grounds of safety,” said Joe Dirwan, AGSI general secretary.
