The Government insisted there would be no extension of the Mar 31 deadline even though 1.2 million households still have not paid the €100 charge with just three days to go.

Environment Minister Phil Hogan said there were no arrangements being made to facilitate late payments. “The household charge won’t go away,” he told TV3. “There’ll be no extension of time from the Mar 31 deadline.
