Hogan urged to admit household levy ‘a mess’

Environment Minister Phil Hogan has been urged to admit he made “a mess” of the controversial household charge.

Fianna Fáil frontbench TD Dara Calleary said there needed to be much more information provided on the €100 charge, as well as further exemptions for those on low incomes.

Mr Calleary called for the Mar 31 deadline for payment to be extended, saying the manner in which the charge had been introduced had caused “serious difficulties”.
