Hundreds of family and friends joined the couple at the Holy Cross Church in Charleville. Dessie had described Sarah’s support over recent months as “amazing”. “Sarah’s been brilliant. We’ve been going out five years. She’s been amazing, I can’t thank her enough. You need support, I needed my family, who are unbelievable, and Sarah. There’s light at the end of the tunnel. I just have to stay focused and really drive on. That’s the way it has to be. I’d be very hopeful,” he said last month.

The towering Charle-ville centre back received a freak neck injury in the county semi-final game against Kilbrin when he was involved in a collision with one of his own players. He is now temporarily paralysed from the neck down with a bleed in the spinal chord. Since then he has been in the Rehab Centre in Dún Laoghaire where he continues to make steady progress.
