Lawlor plans RTÉ return

Broadcaster Áine Lawlor, who is being treated for cancer, intends returning to her regular slot on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland later this year.

A special Morning Ireland online programme for the Irish abroad, broadcast yesterday, was presented by the well known journalist.

The mother-of-four left Morning Ireland last October to undergo treatment for cancer.

Morning Ireland presenter, Cathal Mac Coille, said Ms Lawlor was still in treatment but recovering.

“She is hoping to be back regularly on air with us later this year,” said Mr Mac Coille when introducing the online programme — one of several projects that Ms Lawlor has undertaken while in treatment.

She has also recorded a number of One to One programmes for RTÉ One television that will be broadcast at a future date.

RTÉ said Ms Lawlor was extremely appreciative of the amount of goodwill, cards and emails that she has received from listeners over the past few months.

Ms Lawlor, who has worked for RTÉ since 1984, joined Morning Ireland in 1995.

Morning Ireland was the most listened to radio show in the country last year with a listenership of almost 500,000, according to latest JNLR figures.
