James Reilly, the health minister, has been ordered to address significant regulatory concerns over VHI within two months or risk Ireland facing a wave of European Commission-imposed fines.

In correspondence sent by the European Court of Justice to the Department of Health last week, the court said it did not accept the Government’s timeline for reforming a perceived bias towards VHI in the market.

While the department has confirmed the correspondence, which it described as a “procedural” measure only, it declined to release the letter.
