Plans have been drawn up to make part of Cork City safer by night in an effort to prevent a repeat of a horror attack which led to a Spaniard being hospitalised.

There was public outrage after the unprovoked attack on Jordi Roca, a 39-year-old delicatessen worker who received 21 staples for a head wound.

He was walking with some friends near the White Street car park in the South Parish last month when they were attacked by gang of youths, believed to have been drinking in the area.
