Council must seek alternative revenue as levies plummet

Cork County Council is being forced to seek alternative measures to fund major infrastructure works after development levies plummeted in the past few years.

Just €4.3 million was collected in development charges last year by the council, compared to €58.8m in 2007.

The huge drop coincides with the downturn in the construction sector.
