Irish motorists have suffered five tax increases in the past three years, putting us in the top tier for motoring costs in the EU.

Combined with the latest hikes in petrol and diesel, the high tax policy of the current and previous Governments amounts to a nationwide rip-off, says AA Ireland.

According to its research, the price of a litre of petrol has gone up 2.1 cent since last month and diesel has gone up by 1.3 cent. The organisation said motorists are contacting the company daily to complain.
