Teenager’s claim of gang rape under investigation

A gang rape is said to have occurred in Colmanswell, Co Limerick, on Feb 1.

It is reported that the girl was then raped again near Charleville in north Cork.

Gardaí attached to Bruff, Co Limerick, have taken charge of the investigation.

Gardaí were alerted to the incidents after the girl made a statement this week.

She has alleged she was raped and sexually assaulted by a number of individuals.

The girl is said to have been traumatised and was treated for shock by the services of the HSE.

According to a spokesperson at Bruff Garda Station, “the investigation is ongoing”. It is understood Bruff gardaí are liaising with colleagues in Charleville.

A number of items, which may be used as potential evidence in a criminal investigation, were recovered by gardaí during searches in Kilmallock, Co Limerick, and in Charleville.

Gardaí are also believed to have interviewed a number of people, although no arrests have been made.
