Locals in the Dublin suburb where innocent Melanie McCarthy was gunned down are bracing themselves for further violence following the funeral yesterday of the 16-year-old girl.

Armed garda patrols are continuing in Tallaght and neighbouring areas and will be on high alert for possible retaliation now that Melanie has been laid to rest.

Her parents, who are not engaged in criminal activity, called for calm following the shocking murder on Feb 7.
