Mr Wogan has turned down pomp and ceremony on his return to his native Limerick in May as guest of honour with his wife Helen at the Mayor’s Ball.

Mayor of Limerick Cllr Jim Long decided to roll out the red carpet for one of the city’s most famous son’s when he received a letter of acceptance from Sir Terry, already a Freeman of the City. After consultation with Garda authorities, a motorbike escort was being organised to whisk Mr Wogan from Shannon Airport to the city in a stretch limo.
