Ex-justice minister to host Mastermind
Well, it’s none other than famed patriot Michael Collins’ descendant, Nora Owen.
As can only be possible in Ireland, the former Fine Gael justice minister is set to be the host of TV3’s version of the legendary quiz show Mastermind.
The station’s spring schedule, launched yesterday, features the grandniece of the Big Fella asking the hard questions every Sunday evening — instead of, in a previous work life, being at the receiving end of a grilling.
The new schedule boasts over 50 hours of home produced content each week, including established live studio output from Ireland AM, Tonight with Vincent Browne and Xposé.
TV3 are concentrating on what it calls Big Week, where each day will be dedicated to the biggest shows in entertainment.
Monday night’s will focus on crime drama that hits very close to home, with Jim McCabe returning to prevent bad things from happening to good people in Beware Ireland. Reporter Dyane Connor will also be counting down the 24 hours to some of Ireland’s most notorious murders in a new series of 24 Hours to Kill.
Tuesdays are about stepping up and stepping out as interior designer Neville Knot takes on a brand new task in Neville’s Doorstep Challenge, and Ireland’s hen and stag nights show us how to say goodbye to single life, in Hen Nights.
On Wednesdays, there’s a flavour of home grown reality television with Ireland’s very own WAG effort in Southside Housewives, while budding amateur bakers will be put to the task in The Irish Bake Off.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, Thursday’s main event, Titanic, comes from the team that brought us Downton Abbey and was co-produced by TV3. The four part series takes a new angle on the Titanic story to mark its momentous 100th anniversary.
Friday is packed with even more reality TV with Tallafornia, Take Me Out Ireland and Come Dine With Me returning for another memorable tour of Ireland.
