Distribution of water resumes

Limerick County Council has confirmed it will resume distribution of water from its treatment plant at Shannon Estuary to about 1,500 households in west Limerick this morning.

However, it said the water supplied is not to be used for drinking or cooking purposes until “further rigorous testing is completed”.

Water restrictions have been in place in various parts of west Limerick since last week when an estimated 2,000 litres of oil entered the river from a commercial property.
