Rural TDs warned of septic tank fee backlash

Rural TDs from the Government were warned they would face a voter backlash if they pushed through new septic tank charges.

As about 300 demonstrators protested outside the Dáil, opposition parties complained the Government was trying to silence debate on the proposed new payment schemes.

The demonstrators, who travelled from Galway, insisted the charge was an “attack on rural Ireland” and warned that Fine Gael and Labour TDs in country areas would pay a hefty price at the next election if they backed the move.
