Fake drink can kill or cause blindness, warns Revenue
Seizures of fake booze increased last year, a trend which has continued in 2012. A week ago, a haul of counterfeit spirits were found in Limerick as part of a larger seizure of smuggled cigarettes and tobacco.
Revenue officers have warned that in many cases counterfeit alcohol contains methanol, which is different to ethanol, which is used in normal alcohol.
