Councillor to raise stink about costly super loos

Clonakilty-based Cllr Cionnaith Ó Súilleabháin said his town council should follow the example of Kilrush in Co Clare, and pay a €120,000 penalty to buy its way out early of its 20-year super-loo lease.

Kilrush councillors agreed earlier this month to serve notice on outdoor advertising firm JCDecaux Ireland — which leases super loos to local authorities around the country — to terminate its 20-year lease agreement seven years early. The council will incur a penalty of €60,382 (inc VAT).
