TRIBUTES were paid yesterday to the editor of the Sunday Independent, Aengus Fanning, who has died following a battle with cancer.

Mr Fanning, 69, had served as editor of the newspaper for 28 years, making him the longest-serving editor in the country at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Anne Harris, the current deputy editor of the Sunday Independent, and his three sons.
