Doping controversy looms as athlete fails drug test

IRISH athletics is bracing itself for a doping controversy just six months before the London Olympics.

A prominent athlete, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is understood to have failed an out-of-competition drugs test which was carried out last month.

The athlete in question now has the right to have the “B” sample analysed in the presence of a representative and a representative of their governing federation, which in this case is Athletics Ireland.
