At-risk school schemes improve learning

THREE reports to be published today will pile pressure on the Government to reverse budget cuts to schemes which, the reports show, are making a significant difference to learning in disadvantaged areas.

The reports show DEIS (Delivering Equality of Opportunity in Schools) schemes improve learning, with one showing the gain is particularly noticeable in young age groups, particularly 2nd-class pupils.

The reports, seen by the Irish Examiner, will lead to fresh demands for a U-turn from Education Minister Ruairi Quinn.
