Soprano to hit the high road

BETTER known for hitting high notes, soprano Cara O’Sullivan is set to hit the high road as a harbour town is tickled pink to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Soprano to hit the high road

The renowned Cork singer announced details yesterday of the first Kinsale Pink Ribbon Walk for Action Breast Cancer, which takes place in the Co Cork harbour town in March. Organisers say it is the first such walk on the south coast.

As brand ambassador for the event, Ms O’Sullivan will perform Stand up and Fight to inspire walkers as they head off on the 10km route at 2pm on Sunday March 4. Runners can head off at 1.45pm. It is hoped the estimated 400 participants will raise about €40,000.

They will all wear a Pink Ribbon Walk t-shirt and Kinsale shops and restaurants will “go pink” for the weekend.

“We are delighted with the response from so many people and Kinsale businesses to date,” organising committee chairperson Jackie Dawson said.

The Pink Ribbon Walk is a national fundraising initiative which organises sponsored charity walks for the Irish Cancer Society’s Action Breast Cancer programme. The events help raise breast cancer awareness, promote healthy living and raise funds.

* Online registration for the event is open on www.pinkribbonwalk.ie and registration forms are available at Kinsale Pharmacy or Finishing Services Kinsale.

You can call the Pink Ribbon Walk Hotline on 087 2627387 or follow the event on Facebook or Twitter.
