THIRTY-EIGHT judges stopped paying the voluntary pension levy last year, new figures have suggested.

Headline results for 2011 released by the Revenue Commissioners yesterday showed that 88 judges had made voluntary payments.

This was a reduction of almost one third on 2010, when 126 judges made payments. As a result, the total amount collected by Revenue fell, from €1.25m in 2010 to just €927,000 last year.
