PLANS to allow people with crippling mortgage debt to rent their properties are to be fast-tracked.

Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan said the move was a key priority, after she took over the post following the storming out of the Cabinet by Willie Penrose.

The scheme would see hard-hit home owners allowed to stay in their current apartment or house, but pay rent to the local authority instead of a bank or building society.
