Burglary suspects hunted after Garda car chase

Yesterday afternoon, the burglars were disturbed while trying to rob houses in the Bartlemy area near Fermoy.

An alert was issued to gardaí and patrol cars converged on the area from several nearby divisions.

The Saab, which was fitted with false 08 D number plates, was spotted in the Glanmire area by gardaí at approximately 4.40pm.

However, they lost sight of the vehicle and it is believed the driver lost control and crashed it into a wall at Beechwood Avenue in Brooklodge.

It is thought that up to four occupants ran from the vehicle and into woodland near the Glanmire Bypass.

Around 20 gardaí were involved in the search last night.

One suspect is described as thin and approximately 6ft tall while an accomplice is described as being around 5ft 9in.

Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity in the area or who saw the men running from the crashed car can contact Cobh Garda station on 021 4908530 or Glanmire Garda station on 021 4821002.
