Jenny gets her Mr D’Arcy

RADIO host Ray D’Arcy is to tie the knot with his long-term partner Jenny Kelly after popping the question over the Christmas break.

The Today FM broadcaster, who also announced the couple were expecting their second child together, casually dropped the news of the engagement into his round-up of celebrity gossip during the Ray D’Arcy Show yesterday. The couple already have a daughter, five-year-old Kate.

Referring to the news of soul singer Aretha Franklin’s engagement, D’Arcy revealed he and Jenny had done likewise.

“I asked Jenny to marry me over the Christmas and she said yeah, which was very nice,” he told listeners.

“We are also expecting our second child, which is great news.”

Later he urged his fiancée, who is also a producer on the show, to reveal exactly how he had proposed, claiming: “It wouldn’t sound good coming from me.”

Jenny said: “It was incredibly romantic, it was the beginning of December and it was after a hard day at the office. I came in. I plonked on the couch,” she said, going on to explain that this was the first of three proposals.

“Ray was in the shower and next thing a vision appeared before me in his jocks and asked for my hand in marriage.

“He asked me to marry him and I laughed and for some reason thought he was joking. And then he said don’t be all coy to me now or something to that effect.”

Jenny’s father passed away last April and she explained that how as it had been “a really tough year for my family”, she had wanted to put a smile on her mother’s face on Christmas Day.

“I came upstairs and there were lovely petals on the bed and the ring was there and Ray and Kate were both in the room and Ray proposed again and then we told my mum,” she said.
