SINÉAD O’CONNOR announced “great news” yesterday, just days after the break-up of her fourth marriage.

O’Connor announces her ‘glorious return to Twitter’

First she told her friends and followers that she was making her “glorious return” to Twitter, purely for the purposes of “fun and gigglement.”

She followed that up by announcing that her song, Lay Your Head Down, had been named as one of 39 songs eligible for the upcoming Oscars, for the Irish feature film Albert Nobbs.

The posts on her website, both made yesterday, come four days after she revealed on her website that the 16-day long marriage to Irishman Barry Herridge had ended.

She said her husband, a drugs counsellor for children, was “enormously wounded” after she dragged him on a search for marijuana in the less salubrious parts of Las Vegas after their marriage ceremony.

The acclaimed singer said they had only spent seven days together, up until Christmas Eve.

She was seen out in her home town in Bray, Co Wicklow, that evening buying Christmas presents with ex-partner Frank Bonadio, the father of her fourth child and ex-husband of the singer Mary Coughlan.
