SAY what you like about the Greens but they can’t be accused of lacking guts when it comes to offering themselves as objects of public ridicule.

First there was Paul Gogarty getting in touch with his rock and roll rhythms, now Dan Boyle has had a crack.

More Elton John than Eddie Vedder, he debuted his album for the wider public to hear on Thursday’s Today with Pat Kenny.

The former Green Party senator played one song, Angela, from new album Third Adolescence, and an old demo I Must Be Dreaming.

With nerves hindering his performance, the former politician can certainly hold a note and tinkle the ivory.

However, that was not enough for Twitter, where reaction was swift and severe.

“Christ. The Dan Boyle “song”. Like something left on an answering machine by a persistent and subtly impaired stalker,” wrote Paraic O’Donnell.

Shane Hegarty was no more complimentary tweeting: “He sounds like a man having an operation without anaesthetic, singing as a diversion from the pain.”

Dan himself admitted he was “nervous” but understood that not everyone in the Twittersphere would be complimentary
