Gardaí seek witnesses to fatal road accident
Michael Corcoran was crossing the main Cork-Limerick road north of Mallow when he was hit by a truck.
Mr Corcoran, who lived at Baltydaniel, Mallow was fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene by a local doctor.
Garda Supt Pat McCarthy said that the accident happened at the Newtwopothouse junction around 4pm last Monday.
Mr Corcoran’s body was removed to Cork University Hospital, where a post mortem was conducted.
The driver of the lorry was said to be shocked but not injured.
Supt McCarthy said it appeared Mr Corcoran had been standing on the Doneraile side of the junction before he crossed the road and was hit by the truck, which was travelling in the Cork direction.
He said the truck driver tried to take evasive action but was unable to avoid hitting Mr Corcoran.
“We are looking for anybody who witnessed this accident or who may have seen Mr Corcoran on the Doneraile side of the junction prior to it to contact us. He was wearing a grey cap and dark clothes,” Supt McCarthy said.
