FIVE people died in crashes on Irish roads over the weekend.

A mother and daughter who were killed in Co Mayo on Friday night when their car skidded on ice and flipped upside down into a stream, died from drowning, it emerged.

Sandra Herbert, 40, and her daughter Rachel, 14, were in the front of the family saloon when the accident occurred at about 9pm at Rathduff, Cloghans, Ballina.
