Scholarship in honour of footballer
The talented footballer collapsed during a match and died days later in Cork University Hospital of a suspected brain haemorrhage.
To fund the scholarship, a testimonial match in the late Mr O’Driscoll’s honour will be played in Dingle on December 30.
The match will feature the two county championship teams from the Dingle peninsula, West Kerry and Dingle, and will take place in Dingle’s Páirc an Áthasaigh at 3pm.
Collections will be taking place throughout the ground with all monies going towards the scholarship. Everybody who contributes will be entered into a draw for GAA memorabilia.
“The reason behind the scholarship was to remember and honour Brendan, who was a prominent Annascaul and West Kerry player and was well known and hugely liked,” said Sean Barry of Annascaul GAA Club.
“The west Kerry clubs felt that a scholarship would be a fitting tribute to his memory. The scholarship will benefit a first year college student who has played underage football with West Kerry.”
