THE ESB has agreed to new warning procedures as part of a major flood alert system for Cork city.

The announcement was made by city manager Tim Lucey last night, two years after the devastating flood which caused an estimated €150 million worth of damage to the city.

After weeks of heavy rain, the ESB was forced to release millions of litres of water from its Inniscarra Dam on the night of November 19, swamping the city downstream.
