THE HSE West says it is starting to see significant improvements in its battle against absenteeism in the region.

Senior HSE official Daniel McCallion made the disclosure ahead of the issuing of a report by a task force, established to deal with absenteeism in the HSE West area.

The HSE confirmed that in September there were 1,100 staff calling in sick on a daily basis, from Donegal to Limerick. There are 26,000 staff in HSE West.
