No need to fly solo in search for that special someone

DOUBLES’ speed dating is coming to Cork for the first time.

No need to fly solo in search for that special someone

The initiative comes as a survey show one-in-twelve Cork people said ATM queues and shopping centres are good places to meet a “significant other”.

Bars and nightclubs are still the number one spot, with almost nine out of 10 people stating they were the best places to strike it lucky.

Research conducted on behalf of The Roxy Night Club also found 6% believe work was an ideal setting.

According to the Central Statistics Office, there are nearly 70,000 single people in Cork city and The Roxy Night Club and The Classic Bar have teamed up with the speed dating service “Wingman Nights” to kick start Cork’s dating scene.

People are invited to sign up with a friend or “wingman” and the pair will speed date together through potential suitors.

Shane Hennessy of Wingman Nights said: “After spending time in the UK and Australia, the Irish dating scene is a disaster in comparison. I think it’s very hard for people to meet a boyfriend or a girlfriend here, so we have come up with this idea as a way of helping people out. Our ‘wingman’ approach means people will have more confidence to join in the fun.”

The Classic Bar, South Main Street will host “Wingman Nights” starting Tuesday next at 8pm. Admission is by booking and costs €5 per person, with a drinks promotion at every event.
