DJ Fenton declared bankrupt

TODAY FM presenter Tony Fenton has been declared bankrupt following his failure to pay tax debts amounting to almost €880,000.

The radio DJ, whose real name is Anthony Fagan, did not contest a petition brought on behalf of the Revenue Commissioners arising from three court judgments against him, totalling €879,695.87.

The Revenue Commissioners also registered a judgment mortgage against his south Dublin home.

Mr Fagan, of 3 Merrion Woods, Stillorgan Road, Blackrock, had been working at the Today FM offices at Digges Lane, Dublin 2, when he was served with the petition by Revenue on October 28.

The DJ was not in court yesterday to hear Ms Justice Elizabeth Dunne formally adjudicating him bankrupt and was represented by his solicitor, St John Dundon of Dundon Callanan Solicitors.

However, he was later pictured attending the High Court Examiner’s Office at nearby Phoenix Street in Smithfield, where he was required to sign papers.

Revenue was represented by barrister Gary Compton BL, who said the petition had been brought following Mr Fagan’s “failure to satisfy a bankruptcy summons”.

Last year, three judgments were made against the presenter in the High Court, totalling €770,044.09.

The interest accrued on these judgments to date means that Mr Fagan’s debts have now risen to €879,695.87.
