Market for illegal prescription pills growing rapidly

ALMOST one million prescription pills being illegally imported for sale on the black market were seized by customs and gardaí in the first half of this year, figures reveal.

The drugs are mainly benzodiazepines (minor tranquillisers), amphetamines, steroids, and other assorted prescription medicines and were picked up during 3,891 seizures.

Together with other chemicals and magic mushrooms seizures, they had a value of €2.4 million.
