Mortgage report’s solutions ‘like slavery’

THE Finance Minister has been accused by a Labour TD of driving troubled homeowners like “galley slaves” through the mortgage crisis.

During heated debate on mortgage arrears yesterday, several groups and TDs claimed solutions set out in the recent Keane report were akin to a “form of slavery”.

Declan Keane, chairman of the recent mortgage crisis report, told Oireachtas finance committee members that banks were not happy with the mortgage debt-relief options cited in his report.
