PEOPLE living in a remote village in Co Cork have described their shock and disbelief that the county’s largest on-land seizure of cocaine was discovered in such a quiet backwater.

Bartlemy, which lays claim to have reared Napoleon’s famous white horse Marengo, has no shop, no post office and no pub.

Many of its 700-strong population live outside the village centre on scattered farms halfway between the towns of Fermoy and Mallow.
