Taoiseach unable to reverse fuel cuts

THE Taoiseach said he is not in a position to reverse recent cuts to the fuel allowance which could leave 2,000 elderly people in difficulty this winter.

However, Enda Kenny has refused to absolutely rule out breaching a €500,000 cap on bankers’ pay as requested by AIB, but said he has not seen any evidence that this would be warranted.

“It would want to be a truly exceptional case to warrant a breach of that. I have not seen any evidence of any exceptional case.”
